Alcanta Education Organization Profile

The Dream For Alcanta In 1993 two men, James Chin and David Cao, were enjoying the scenery of the Scottish Highlands overlooking Loch Ness, one of the most romantic stretches of water in the world.  They were discussing their country’s future and how education and training could help their country and their people meet China’s future economic and social challenges.


They completed their education program at the University of Manchester and went back to China 

 
Four years later, in 1997, their dream became a reality when they set up the Guangzhou Alcanta International Education Center in a downtown Guangzhou office building, offering business and English programs to multinational companies.  Over the years since its formation the center has evolved into a highly recognized institution of higher learning with 3,500 students.  The school has become well known for its academic excellence, innovative teaching methods, committed teaching and research teams, and much sought-after by students and parents looking for quality education programming.

Alcanta offered English training programs to local taxi-drivers to support Beijing Olympic Games, free of charge. More than 200 drivers were trained over a period of 6-month.

Alcanta offered ELT programs to middle school English teachers from remote areas, free of charge. About 1800 teachers received training over a period of 6 years.

Alcanta donated a ‘Hope School’ in Kashgar, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in 2007. Alcanta team paid a visit to the school.

Current Profile -  Alcanta College of Foreign Languages (College Campus):
Location - Alcanta College of Foreign Languages is conveniently located at No. 1130 Baiyun Dadao
  Nan Road, Guangzhou, nestled alongside the scenic and well-know Baiyun Mountain Resort.  The campus is set amid a complex of European structures, covering an area of 22,000 M2.

Key Programs

The college offers two major programs to the public

- A three year diploma in Business English and Business Japanese in Collaboration with two local universities.

- A Dynamic English Training (DET) program which focuses on improving student’s English communication skills.

Student Profile - There are about 1,600 students studying full time on campus. They age between 17 and 21, and come from different parts of China. A small number of students are from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, and the Middle East countries. After graduation from college, they either continue to pursue their studies in China or abroad, or seek employment.

Faculty - Faculty are assigned to either Department I or II.  These departments offer full and part-time courses taught in English and Chinese.  Department two also offers course in Japanese. More than 70% of the students are enrolled in diploma programs in English, Japanese, and business management.  The faculty includes a dedicated group of Western and Chinese specialists with extensive teaching experience holding both mid and high level academic credentials.



Notable Achievements - Alcanta’s contribution to private education has been highly recognized by both the media and government. Over the years Alcanta has been conferred upon the following awards:

Current ProfileAlcanta Vocational School of Foreign Languages (Vocational School Campus)

Location:  The school is located at No. 176 Yun Xiang Lu, Tonghe Street, east of the Baiyun Mountain Resort. The school has a building area of 27,000m2, is equipped with modern teaching and learning facilities, and can hold up to 2000 students.

Key Programs The school offers 3-year  diploma programs in Business English, Business Japanese, Tourism and Management, Computer Science, E-business, Marketing and Secretarial Studies.

 

Students’ Profile – Currently, there are about 1900 full-time students studying on the campus. Their ages range from 15 to 18 and they come from different parts of China. There are a small number of students who come from abroad. After graduation from the school, they either continue to pursue their studies in China or abroad, or seek employment.

Faculty - There are more than 70 full-time dedicated professional Chinese and Western teachers.  Teachers are divided into two academic departments, the Department of Foreign Languages and the Department of Fundamental Courses.

Current Profile  Alcanta International College (AIC) (Preparatory)

   AIC is conveniently located at No. 1130 Baiyun Dadao Nan Road, Guangzhou, nestled alongside the scenic and well-know Baiyun Mountain Resort. This will be the third Alcanta school. It aims to become the international university preparatory school of choice for local Chinese and expatriate students in the Guangzhou region. It will focus on producing excellent university acceptance records from a student-centered learning community with an emphasis on Chinese language and culture, all housed in a state-of-art facility.
